Is BOTOX® Safe During Pregnancy?

Pregnancy can take a toll on the body, and many expectant mothers want to pamper themselves a little so they look and feel more rested. Those who regularly receive BOTOX® injections at our Barrington med spa often ask if they can continue wrinkle-fighting treatments throughout their term. Unfortunately, the science is inconclusive around pregnancy and injectables, as few studies have been performed on pregnant women. BOTOX is a neurotoxin that relaxes facial muscles, and it’s best to err on the side of caution when using these products. For that reason, we usually suggest that our patients wait until after giving birth to resume their BOTOX sessions.

Whether you’re interested in BOTOX or other treatments, your safety always comes first at our med spa practice here in Barrington. If you’d like to learn more about safe, reliable treatments that rejuvenate your skin, please request a consultation online to learn more.

About the Author

I'm Dr. Renee Burke. Long before I became a board-certified plastic surgeon in Barrington, IL, I caught my first glimpse of surgery while volunteering in an operating room where my mom worked as a nurse. Watching a plastic surgeon at work, I just fell in love with it. That passion led me to establish my Barrington practice, where I specialize in cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, facial rejuvenation, and body contouring. My reputation for creating beautiful, natural-looking results attracts patients from throughout northwest Illinois. My training includes a plastic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and two surgical fellowships.
