Many of our labiaplasty patients have experienced discomfort or embarrassment because of elongated, enlarged, or asymmetric labia. This may be genetic or the result of having children. In either case, pronounced labia may cause discomfort or prevent women from wearing certain clothes. Dr. Burke may recommend surgical rejuvenation by reduction of the labia majora or minora (outer or inner vaginal lips).

She typically performs labiaplasty as an outpatient procedure using twilight sedation or general anesthesia. Patients who combine other procedures with vaginal rejuvenation may need to stay overnight before returning home.

Recovery usually involves minimal downtime, depending on any accompanying procedures. You can perform light activities the day after the surgery, with a return to normal activity within a week. Your sutures naturally dissolve in 1 to 2 weeks. Dr. Burke recommends postponing sexual activity for about 2 to 3 weeks following the procedure. The results can be long-lasting, but pregnancy may alter your appearance.
