As every woman knows—and many have experienced first-hand—the firm and perky breasts of your youth will not last forever. Life has its way of bringing its share of changes to your body, and can leave you feeling self-conscious or uncomfortable with your physical appearance. Dr. Burke knows what it means for a woman to feel confident about her looks, and she wants all her Barrington, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Crystal Lake, and Algonquin patients to love their bodies at any age. A breast lift, technically called mastopexy, can help to restore a youthful look and feel of your breasts.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?
At some point, most women experience some degree of drooping or sagging. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, changes in weight, age, and genetics can all play a role in how your breasts look over time. As your skin loses its youthful elasticity, your breasts may begin pointing downward and losing their firm shape.
If you feel your breasts have lost their youthful, natural perkiness, are drooping, or appear flattened, Dr. Burke may recommend a breast lift. A breast lift surgically reshapes and elevates the breasts, restoring a younger-looking, rounded, and firm shape.
During your breast lift consultation, Dr. Burke will listen to your goals and concerns to help develop an individualized procedure plan for you. She may recommend supplementing your breast lift with breast implants if you are also experiencing a loss of volume. A breast augmentation with lift will help to avoid a flattened appearance once the breasts have been lifted.
Dr. Renee Burke
As a double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Burke uses the latest techniques and
technology to bring your vision to life. Her artistic eye and years of experience produce
stunning results that enhance your natural beauty.
Dr. Burke will perform your breast lift under general anesthesia. Incisions are inconspicuously placed under the breast or around the nipple and areola. In some instances, a vertical incision from the nipple to the breast crease may be necessary.
After making the incision, Dr. Burke will carefully manipulate the underlying muscle and tissue to create a more youthful foundation of the breast. She may use a surgical mesh such as GalaFLEX® to support the breast tissue like an internal bra and reduce pressure on the breast skin. Excess fat may be removed, as well, using liposuction. Dr. Burke will then remove any excess skin to elevate your breasts and give them a naturally younger appearance. She will then close your incisions, place any necessary surgical drains, and apply dressings.

You should be able to return home under the care of a loved one shortly after your breast lift surgery has been completed. Dr. Burke will make sure to answer any questions you may have before you leave, but she is always reachable by phone or email in the event you need to contact her once you’re at home.
Make sure you have some help around the house during this time, as you will need to allow some time for your body to heal. Most women feel well enough to walk around after a day or two, but you should wait 2 to 3 weeks before resuming full activity. It is important to keep your skin protected from the sun to ensure proper healing and maintain your results.
As bruising and swelling continue to fade, your breasts will look younger and younger with each passing day. Many women are amazed at their results, feeling as though they once again had the body from their past. Results are usually long term; however, changes in weight, pregnancy, and natural aging may alter the shape of your breasts after a breast lift.
