Most of us want a smooth, defined neck and chin, whether we know it or not. When the skin becomes lax, wrinkled, and crepey, it can make us look older than we feel. Even younger people can lack definition between the jawline and neck due to genetics.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Renee Burke offers a variety of neck and chin tightening treatments to help patients from Barrington, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Crystal Lake, and Algonquin refine their appearance.

Candidates for Neck and Chin Tightening
Good candidates for neck and chin tightening are adults in good health who want to address any of the following concerns:
- Sagging skin under the chin, along the jawline, and on the neck
- A soft sloping contour from the chin to the neck
- Vertical neck banding
During your private consultation, Dr. Burke will ask you about the improvements you’d like to attain. She’ll also review the pros and cons of minimally invasive surgical treatments to help you feel confident about the option you choose.
Minimally Invasive Neck and Chin Tightening Treatments
Several minimally invasive neck and chin tightening options are available:
PrecisionTX®
Dr. Burke uses PrecisionTx to address mild to moderate skin laxity and excess fat under the chin. She performs this minimally invasive surgical procedure using a local anesthetic. She uses a combination of liposuction and a specialized optic wire to deliver the laser energy under the skin to increase collagen production and melt fat cells under the chin, along the jawline and neck. While there is noticeable improvement right away, treated areas continue to firm and tighten for 3 to 6 months as new collagen forms.

Neck Lift
Patients with significant skin laxity and pronounced neck bands may need a surgical neck lift. This facial plastic surgery procedure is often combined with Smartlipo® to remove the fat that creates a double chin.

Neck and Chin Tightening Recovery
Recovery after neck and chin tightening varies between patients and with the extent of the treatment as follows:
- Minimally invasive procedures (PrecisionTx): Expect mild swelling and bruising in treated areas. You will need to take it easy for approximately 2 to 3 days and avoid strenuous activities for about 2 weeks to avoid increased swelling.
- Skin excision (neck lift): Expect swelling and bruising in treated areas. Patients typically return to nonstrenuous activities within 5 to 7 days and work in about 10 to 14 days. A neck lift leaves scars around the ears and possibly under the chin. Scars from these procedures are usually not noticeable once they have fully healed.
Regardless of the specifics of the procedure, patients will need to wear a neck and chin compression garment as directed by Dr. Burke.
